Update: My “Weight Watchers at Work” program ended at work on 7/23/09. I was on it for 28 weeks and lost -42.2 lbs. on it. And since they probably won’t be continuing it at work since not enough people signed up again, I decided to continue on myself and start attending a local Weight Watchers meeting elsewhere in the community. I got weighed in at that meeting for the first time yesterday and it shows I’m now down -42.8 lbs. I want to lose another 36.2 lbs so I’m continuing on!
Here’s what I ate on my vegan diet on 7/23/09:
Lunch: spinach salad, chickpeas, rice, onion, spouts, peas and corn
Dinner: Quinoa, black beans, lettuce, carrots and vegannaise in a whole wheat wrap and some macaroni salad made with vegannaise. Just ate half of this for dinner since I was full.
Snack: spice drops (candy) and pomegranate orange flavored red tea
Vegans do not consume animals or animal products. Why go vegan? Here’s some good articles:
- “57 Health Benefits of Going Vegan”
- “Health benefits of veganism”
- “All About What Being Vegan Means, and the Benefits that Come with It”
“Most people think this (veganism) is an unhealthy lifestyle, but in actuality it is extremely healthy. … Being a vegan will completely rid your life of virtually all processed foods, and all the poisons found in fast-food and other things that your body just wasn’t meant to intake. Eating in this manner will give you an incredibly healthier lifestyle. “
And some studies say that vegans live 11-13 years longer than other people. Personally I know it definitely reduces cholesterol alot (it did mine) and therefore reduces your risk of heart disease which is America’s #1 killer. Cancer and stroke risk is reduced too.
It’s also good for the environment and the hungry…
- “If the 670 million tons of the world’s grain that is fed to livestock were reduced by just 10 percent, the resulting grain could feed 225 million people”
- “If you’re eating a healthy diet and you’re a vegan, you are leaving less of a footprint on the Earth.” -from the founder of VegNews
Also, more celebrities are becoming vegan. Ellen Degeneres and musician Moby are vegans. Alanis Morissette became a vegan this year and lost 20 lbs. and got healthier. I know Paul McCartney sometimes eats at a vegan restaurant in southeast florida. For a list of vegan celebrities go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_vegans
As a vegan I eat veggies, fruits, grains, beans and more. I try to eat healthy. Now if I have a craving for some junk food, some of the regular products that they sell in the supermarket are vegan. For example, Oreos and Twizzlers are vegan. More at: http://www.peta.org/accidentallyVegan/
Here’s what I ate on my vegan diet on 7/21/09:
Lunch: Sauteed vegetables over Quinoa (tastes like rice but nutritionally better for you. Protein packed), and delicious herbed Potatoes. And a bottle of mint green tea. (picture below)
Dinner: big salad and some Sun Chips in original flavor, multigrain. Also pomegranate and orange brewed red tea from Publix’s deli section. That iced tea is so good.
Snack: organic green grapes and raw walnuts (rich in Omega 3’s).
My vegan diet on 7/20/09:
Lunch: Steamed greens, paprika potatoes and black-eyed peas.
Snack: 2 organic cookies (vegan cookies that look like oreos filled with chocolate)
Dinner: Fortified Cereal with cinnamon and unsweetened vanilla flavored Almond Milk (A bowl of Kellogg’s Smart Start Strong Heart cereal in ‘original antioxidants’ flavor and a healthy cinnamon flavored cereal. Sometimes I’m in the breakfast mood and just like something light and vitamin packed for dinner)
My vegan diet on 7/18/09:
Cereal, Banana, Lettuce, Veggie Burger made with rice and black beans, plus fries, green tea.
My diet on 7/19/09:
Lunch: Salad bar at Jason’s Deli (pictured below) and a cup of Vegetarian Vegetable Soup.
Snack: Fruit salad
Dinner: Vegetarian pizza on whole wheat Boboli crust.
Here’s what I ate on 7/16/09 on my vegan diet…
Lunch: Romaine lettuce, shredded carrots, cucumbers, cabbage, tabouli, indian potatoes with peas, chickpeas with spinach, a tiny taste of tofu and a 1/2 bottle of tea. Very filling and delicious. (picture below)
No snacks today.
Dinner: Mac & “Cheese” at the Sublime vegetarian restaurant. Unfortunately it wasn’t very good or cheesy so I didn’t eat it all. Other people liked their dishes though but I wasn’t impressed with how the food looked. My lunch was definitely better than my dinner.
